BIO-COMPOSITE RESIN SOLUTIONS

"taking big steps to leave a small footprint"

Our Story

Picture
We use perennial non-food, non-forest grasses and co-products and waste streams of agricultural biomass processing industries to manufacture bio-composite resins. We commercially compound biomass with a combination of  post-industrial plastics and  virgin polymers and bio-polymers, depending on the application. The patent-pending resin technologies are created at the Bio-products Discovery and Development Center, (BDDC) University of Guelph, Ontario, our technology collaborator.

All our bio-composite resins have four characteristics in common:

  • Competitive cost compared to fossil polymer matrices – no cost penalty for going green
  • Customers can use existing equipment and moulds in most cases (compostable bio-composite resins may need new moulds as their shrinkage is lower than fossil polymers like PP and PS)
  • No change in customers' operating parameters – no loss of cycle time, compromising productivity or quality
  • Assured supply of biomass and bio-composite resins to scale up – since a vast variety of globally available biomass has been characterised and hybridized, no constraints to scale with increased demand

Key Technologies

  1. Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) certified compostable bio-composite resins. These bio-composite resins are primarily used in the food packaging and pharma sectors.

  2. Low specific gravity (Light-weight) bio-carbon based bio-composite resins that replace much higher specific gravity inorganic filler reinforced polymer matrices (PP/PA6).  Our bio-carbon is USDA certified 99% new carbon bio-carbon. These bio-composite resins are primarily for use in the automotive sector.

Light-weight bio-composite resins that replace talc/glass fiber filled polymer systems. Our resins save up to 23% weight and are price, performance, and process competitive.

We also use our bio-carbon to compound BIOBLAKR® Masterbatch as a substitute for carbon black masterbatch. This is the world's first black Masterbatch to use USDA-certified 99% new carbon (bio-carbon).

Customized molding-grade repro for a variety of injection molding, rotor molding, thermoforming, and blow molding applications. Some examples are very high melt/high impact repro for injection molding and fractional melt high impact repro for rotor molding.
