We have achieved a major breakthrough in being able to use bio-carbon from natural materials to replace hitherto used inorganic fillers like chopped glass fiber and talc, with bio-carbon and create bio-composite resins that are drop-in replacements of talc and glass-filled Polypropylene (PP) and Nylon composites. We have saved for e.g., 23% in weight in some applications where for e.g. 40% talc-filled PP was being used and no cost penalty. Light-weighting is the sustainable response to the needs of increasingly fuel efficient vehicles. Our value proposition is to take away around 20% of the weight contributed by plastic parts in a car (typically 20% of 200 KGs in a typical automobile = 40 Kgs lighter). Technology Overview The patented technology deployed is to compatibilize bio-carbon made from natural biomass with fossil polymers like PP and Nylon and create bio-composite resins that have equal or higher mechanical properties along with the required durability and performance linked properties like heat aging, adhesion strength, etc. to meet the demanding needs of the auto industry. Our innovative biocarbon producing capability, surface treatment methodologies and exfoliation techniques, coupled with our extrusion technologies, facilitate the compounding of bio-carbon based bio-composite resins for light-weighting injection molded auto parts. |
